**Einride AB** is a Swedish freight technology company that runs fleets of electric heavy-duty trucks for shippers and develops its own automated driving system, the **Einride Driver**, including a purpose-built cab-less autonomous truck with no space for a driver on board. Founded in Stockholm in 2016 by Robert Falck, Linnea Kornehed Falck and Filip Lilja, it became a public company on 9 June 2026 through a merger with the special purpose acquisition company Legato Merger Corp. III. Its American depositary shares have traded on Nasdaq under the ticker ENRD since 10 June 2026.[1][2][3] On 21 September 2026 Einride announced a strategic collaboration with [NVIDIA](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/nvidia) to build the next generation of the Einride Driver on [NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/nvidia_drive_hyperion), aimed at autonomous trucking on highways and suburban roads.[4][5]

Einride's business has two sides. It earns most of its revenue by operating human-driven electric trucks under multi-year "Freight-Capacity-as-a-Service" (FCaaS) contracts. It also develops autonomy and planning software, which since 2025 it has also licensed to other operators as software-as-a-service. Its AI planning platform, Saga (marketed as Saga AI), schedules routes, charging and vehicle assignments across the fleet.[1][6]

## History

### Founding and the T-pod (2016-2018)

Robert Falck, formerly a manufacturing engineering director at Volvo GTO Powertrain, founded Einride in September 2016 and was its chief executive for almost nine years.[1] The company's first public design was the T-pod, a windowless electric freight vehicle with no cab. TechCrunch reported in July 2017 that Einride had built a full-scale T-pod prototype with a 200 kWh battery and a range of about 124 miles. It was designed for both driverless operation and remote control by human operators, and Einride said one operator could control several T-pods at once.[8]

Einride and the logistics company DB Schenker signed a commercial agreement in April 2018. In November 2018 they started the first installation of an Einride autonomous electric truck at a DB Schenker facility in Jönköping, Sweden.[9]

### First public-road permits (2019-2022)

On 7 March 2019 the Swedish Transport Agency concluded that Einride's autonomous vehicle could operate in accordance with Swedish traffic regulations, and on 11 March it approved extending the Jönköping pilot to a public road. The permit covered a short stretch inside an industrial area, between a warehouse and a terminal, and was valid until 31 December 2020. The first run, which Einride described as a world first for a cab-less electric truck on a public road, took place on 15 May 2019.[9]

Einride began commercial operations in 2020. Because suitable electric heavy trucks were not yet available at scale, it first worked with a partner to convert diesel trucks to electric drive. It later sourced trucks from manufacturers including Daimler, BYD and Scania.[1] Its partnership with Lidl in Sweden, which started in Stockholm in 2020, was still running in 2026.[10]

In the United States, Einride signed its first operational contract with GE Appliances in 2021.[1] It piloted its pods at a fenced GE Appliances warehouse in Louisville from November 2021.[11] On 23 June 2022 Einride said it had received approval from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to run its cab-less "Autonomous Electric Transport" vehicle on public roads, monitored by a remote operator, in a pilot for GE Appliances.[12] TechCrunch reported that the route was a mile-long mixed-traffic road between a GE Appliances factory and warehouse in Selmer, Tennessee, and that under the approval the vehicle would run only in daylight on weekdays and avoid bad weather.[11] Einride's prospectus dates the first public-road run in the U.S. to October 2022.[1]

### Expansion and financing (2021-2025)

Einride raised a $110 million Series B in 2021. In December 2022 it announced $500 million in new financing, made up of a $200 million equity Series C (including a $90 million convertible note raised earlier that year) from investors including Northzone, EQT Ventures, Temasek, the Swedish pension fund AMF, Polar Structure and Norrsken VC, plus $300 million in debt led by Barclays Europe.[13] The company entered Germany in September 2022, starting with Electrolux as a customer, and later expanded to Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.[13][14]

In 2025 Einride completed a cab-less autonomous border crossing with customs clearance between Sweden and Norway, and ran a fully autonomous heavy-duty truck on a public road at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium. By December 2025 it held public-road permits for its Autonomous Truck in Sweden, Norway, Belgium and the United States.[1] It also lost a large U.S. customer: its 2025 annual accounts attribute SEK 79.0 million of lost revenue mainly to a contract with a large U.S. customer that ended in March 2025.[1]

On 21 May 2025 Falck stepped down as chief executive and became executive chairman. Roozbeh Charli, who had joined Einride in 2020 and served as chief financial officer and later deputy CEO and chief operating officer, took over as CEO.[1][15] In October 2025 Einride raised $100 million from new and existing investors, including its largest shareholder EQT Ventures and a strategic investment from IonQ.[16]

### SPAC merger and Nasdaq listing (2025-2026)

On 12 November 2025 Einride, Legato Merger Corp. III (then listed on NYSE American as LEGT) and an Einride subsidiary signed a business combination agreement. The companies valued Einride at $1.8 billion in pre-money equity, expected about $219 million in gross proceeds before redemptions, and planned a New York Stock Exchange listing.[2] On 26 February 2026 they announced an oversubscribed private placement (PIPE) of about $113 million. The same release gave Einride's pre-money equity value as $1.35 billion, down from the $1.8 billion announced in November.[2][17]

Legato shareholders approved the deal on 4 June 2026 and it closed on 9 June 2026. Holders of 16,596,675 Legato shares redeemed them for cash from the trust account. After closing, Einride had 140,039,054 ordinary shares outstanding, of which 16,639,056 were represented by ADSs. The ADSs and warrants began trading on Nasdaq, not the NYSE originally planned, on 10 June 2026.[3][7]

## Technology

### Einride Driver

The Einride Driver is Einride's in-house automated driving system. The company calls it "vessel-agnostic," meaning it is designed to run on vehicle platforms other than Einride's own. According to the prospectus it has three proprietary parts: the automated driving software, the sensor and compute package, and the safety case.[1]

The software uses what Einride calls a dual-path architecture. The primary path is an end-to-end machine learning model trained with a combination of [imitation learning](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/imitation_learning) and [reinforcement learning](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/reinforcement_learning), meant to produce human-like driving. The secondary path is rule-based, deterministic logic that sets guardrails for the learned model and, according to Einride, underpins its regulatory approvals.[1] The perception stack combines [lidar](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/lidar), cameras and radar with motion sensors and satellite positioning.[2] Before the 2026 NVIDIA agreement, the prospectus already named Aeva as a lidar partner and NVIDIA as a computing-platform partner. It also said Einride uses [Gaussian splatting](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/gaussian_splatting) to reduce the model's dependence on exact sensor positions, and that the stack is containerized so it can run on different compute architectures.[1]

Einride says its safety work draws on standards including ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), ISO 8800, ISO 5083 and ISO/SAE 21434. It was audited by the state-owned Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE), which the company says reported "satisfactory safety" for the intended design and operational design domain.[1] A remote Control Tower lets one operator supervise a fleet of vehicles running the Einride Driver and step in when needed.[1]

### Autonomous Truck

Einride's cab-less vehicle has had several names: T-pod (2017), Einride Pod, Autonomous Electric Transport (2022), and in its 2026 filings simply the "Autonomous Truck."[8][11][12][1] The truck is designed in-house. Einride assembles the chassis, sensors and radars itself and has a contract manufacturing partner, with plans to move more production to outside manufacturers over time.[1] As of December 2025 Einride had three Autonomous Trucks in active operation: two with GE Appliances in the United States and one with Apotea, a Swedish online retailer.[1]

On 15 September 2026 Einride and Lidl in Germany announced that a cab-less SAE Level 4 truck, with no driver or safety operator on board, was in daily operation between a Lidl warehouse and distribution center and a Lidl store. It operates under a permit from Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), the first permit of its kind granted in Germany.[18]

In August 2026 Einride and DAF Trucks, a PACCAR company, said they would integrate the Einride Driver into DAF's electric truck platform, working with the Dutch research institute TNO. They planned to test and validate key interfaces during 2026 and to integrate and commission Einride's driving software on a DAF truck in 2027.[19]

### Saga AI

Saga is Einride's freight planning and fleet optimization platform. It takes in data from shippers' transport management systems, vehicle telematics, chargers and drivers, and uses machine learning models for route planning, energy use prediction, charger power output and battery health.[1] Einride says Saga has supported more than 19 million electric miles.[20]

## NVIDIA collaboration (September 2026)

On 21 September 2026 Einride announced a strategic collaboration with NVIDIA to move more of its freight network to autonomous operation, focused on highways and suburban roads.[4] The main terms, according to Einride's announcement:

| Element | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Vehicle platform | Next generation of the Einride Driver to be built on the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion platform |
| Adaptation | Einride will adapt Hyperion for heavy-duty trucking, working with NVIDIA to extend its compute, sensor, software and safety architecture |
| Safety | Integration with the [NVIDIA Halos](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/nvidia_halos) safety system |
| Training compute | Einride intends to deploy NVIDIA [Blackwell](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/nvidia_blackwell) systems at scale through an unnamed NVIDIA Exemplar Cloud partner to train, test and refine its driving models |
| Data and simulation | Einride uses [NVIDIA Cosmos](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/nvidia_cosmos) to search and curate camera data for edge cases and to add synthetic scenarios to training and validation data |
| Division of work | Einride designs, builds and operates the driving system end to end, including safety validation, regulatory approval and customer deployments; NVIDIA provides the compute platform and AI development tools |

Source: [4]

The announcement referred to "NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion" and "the NVIDIA Hyperion platform" without naming a Hyperion generation or chip, and it did not disclose financial terms.[4] NVIDIA's own blog post on physical AI safety the same day listed [NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/nvidia_drive_thor) as the safety-engineered compute and Hyperion as the full-stack vehicle platform and reference architecture for Level 4 vehicles, and listed Einride with Geely, Isuzu and Nissan as companies building Level 4-ready vehicles on Hyperion, supported by Halos OS.[5] The NVIDIA DRIVE account summarized the arrangement as: "Einride builds and operates the autonomous driving system. NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion provides the production-ready foundation powering it."[22]

Henrik Green, Einride's CTO, said that building the next Einride Driver on Hyperion "will enable us to scale autonomous deployment across a freight network that's already serving customers today." Rishi Dhall, NVIDIA's vice president of automotive, said the combination of Hyperion, Halos, Cosmos and Blackwell infrastructure would let Einride "accelerate the development and validation of its autonomous-driving technology."[4]

In the same release Einride said it expects its fleet to grow to 1,500-2,000 vehicles by 2028, based on customer demand so far, and that about 80% of that demand is suitable for automation in the medium term. These are company projections.[4]

## Business and customers

### Business model

Under FCaaS contracts, which usually run three to five years on take-or-pay terms, Einride provides the trucks, contracted drivers, charging and software, and the customer pays fixed fees for a committed amount of transport capacity. The SaaS offering, launched in the second half of 2025, licenses Saga and the Einride Driver to customers who operate their own vehicles. The first Saga platform contract was signed in October 2025 and went live in January 2026.[1] Einride also uses the Einride Driver in its defense work.[21]

As of December 2025 Einride had 30 customers in seven countries (Sweden, Norway, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and the United States), 216 manually driven electric trucks and three Autonomous Trucks. Named customers in the prospectus include GE Appliances, Carlsberg, PepsiCo, Mars and DP World.[1]

## Financial results

| Period | Revenue | Net loss | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| FY 2024 | SEK 388.4 million | SEK 968 million | Audited[1] |
| FY 2025 | SEK 457.8 million (+18%) | SEK 1,722 million | Revenue up 39% excluding the terminated U.S. contract[1] |
| H1 2026 | SEK 263.5 million reported (SEK 273 million, or $27 million, at constant currency, up 26%) | SEK 1.12 billion | Unaudited interim figures. Constant-currency revenue is a non-IFRS measure. The loss includes SEK 881 million of non-cash charges linked to the listing, partly offset by a SEK 582 million non-cash warrant gain[6][28] |

Einride reported cash of SEK 748 million ($77 million) on 30 June 2026. For the second half of 2026 it guided to constant-currency revenue growth of 60-73%, and it says it is working toward cash-flow breakeven in 2028 with about 1,500-2,000 trucks in operation.[6] It said the Tesla deployment would take its fleet from about 250 to about 750 vehicles.[6] Driverless hours in contracted customer operations rose 64% to more than 5,400 as of 30 June 2026, across six autonomous deployments in the U.S. and Europe.[6]

Einride's SEC filings disclose risks. A September 2026 filing states that there is doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern, and that the auditor's reports on its 2024 and 2025 financial statements include an explanatory paragraph to that effect. The same filing reports material weaknesses in internal control over financial reporting.[27]

## Position in autonomous trucking

Most of Einride's revenue comes from running electric freight with human drivers, while its autonomous fleet is still small. At the end of 2025 it had three Autonomous Trucks in operation, compared with 216 manually driven electric trucks.[1] Its autonomous work has centered on purpose-built cab-less vehicles on fixed routes. In 2022 Falck contrasted this with competitors that retrofit existing trucks.[11][16] The NVIDIA agreement and the DAF integration both aim to move the Einride Driver onto other vehicle platforms and toward highway and suburban roads.[4][19] Other autonomous trucking developers covered on AI Wiki include [Aurora Innovation](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/aurora_innovation) and [Waabi](https://aiwiki.ai/wiki/waabi).
