### Surveillance and Human Rights Concerns

iFlytek has faced sustained criticism from human rights organizations and Western governments over the alleged use of its voice recognition technology in surveillance programs targeting ethnic minorities in Xinjiang. Human Rights Watch reported in 2017 that Chinese police departments in Xinjiang and other provinces were using iFlytek-supplied voiceprint collection systems to build biometric databases [7]. The U.S. government cited these activities as grounds for adding iFlytek to the Entity List in October 2019 [6].

iFlytek has not publicly acknowledged involvement in surveillance activities targeting ethnic minorities. The company has instead emphasized the civilian and commercial applications of its technology [14].
