Glif is a generative AI company that makes a chat-based "creative super agent" for producing images, video, audio and marketing content. The user describes what they want in a conversation, and the agent picks from more than 100 AI models and tools, chains the steps together and returns finished media.[2][4] Glif was co-founded by Fabian Stelzer (CEO) and Jamie Wilkinson (CTO); Wilkinson dates the start of the project to late 2022, and Stelzer gives 2023 as the founding year.[11][12] The company operates under the legal name Spellcasters, Inc.[2]

Glif began as a no-code sandbox in which users chained prompts and models into small shareable AI apps called "glifs". It gained wide attention in June 2024 when a Wojak meme generator built on the platform spread on X.[11][14] In March 2026 the company replaced the workflow platform with a single agent, branded Glif 2.0, and on 23 April 2026 it announced a $17.5 million seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Union Square Ventures (USV).[2][3] Since then it has added a library of visual styles and a cast of more than 150 fictional AI "characters" for advertising; on 30 October 2026 Glif presented that cast as an "AI modeling agency" inside the product.[1][9][10][18]

Founders

Fabian Stelzer is a Berlin-based entrepreneur. He co-founded EyeQuant, a machine learning company that predicted human visual attention, in 2009 and led it as CEO until its sale in 2018.[3][12][13] In 2022 he made Salt, a series of short science-fiction films released on Twitter whose images, voices and script were produced largely with AI tools such as Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, DALL-E 2 and GPT-3; viewers voted on what should happen next. CNN Business covered the project in September 2022 and reported that Stelzer was building a related company to make films with AI.[13]

Jamie Wilkinson co-founded Know Your Meme. According to a16z, he won a Primetime Emmy for the crowdsourced Star Wars Uncut project and built VHX, a direct-to-fan video platform that Vimeo acquired.[3] He is Glif's CTO.[11]

History

Origins and Glif v1 (2022-2025)

Wilkinson traces Glif to HOLOSHEET, a Google Sheet that Stelzer shared in October 2022 which chained GPT-3 and Stable Diffusion together to write illustrated stories. The founders turned the idea into a website: a user wired a few prompts and models into a small AI app called a glif (for a time also called a "spell"), shared it, and other people could run it or remix it. A waitlist page went up in February 2023.[11]

The first version of Glif was an "all-prompts, no-code" generative AI sandbox. Users built image generators, meme makers, tarot bots, text adventures and small web pages out of drag-and-drop "blocks", each block being a model call, and could chain models such as Flux, GPT-4, Claude and Stable Diffusion.[11][15] Glifs could also be run through an API, Discord bots or MCP integrations.[11] Know Your Meme described the platform as a site for AI image-generation and modification apps that meme makers used heavily, and credited a Glif app from November 2023 with making the "hidden imagery in AI art" trend more accessible.[15]

Glif also released tools for adjacent ecosystems. Its GitHub organization (created in November 2022) hosts the now-archived ComfyUI-GlifNodes, a set of custom nodes for ComfyUI, and a hosted MCP server for running Glif from other AI apps, whose repository was created in February 2025.[22] On Hugging Face, the glif account lists 16 models, most of them style LoRA adapters for FLUX.1 dev uploaded in September and October 2024 (as of 1 November 2026).[23]

The Wojak generator (June 2024)

In late June 2024 Stelzer shared a Wojak meme generator he had built in Glif. Given a prompt such as a famous person's name or a subculture, it produced a line-art Wojak portrait surrounded by jokes and typical sayings about the subject, in the manner of a "starter pack". The memes spread quickly on X, and Know Your Meme noted that Marc Andreessen posted a version modeled on himself.[14][15] Wilkinson's project page shows the Wojak Meme Generator at 383,000 runs on 28 June 2024.[11] Know Your Meme gave both Glif and the "Glif AI Wojaks" meme their own encyclopedia entries.[15]

By mid-2025, according to Wilkinson, glifs were turning into agents that could chat and call tools, which led to the second version of the product.[11]

Glif 2.0 (2026)

On 24 March 2026 Glif published "Introducing Glif 2.0: One Agent, Many Tools", saying it had rebuilt the product from the ground up. The company wrote that the old multi-agent workflow platform, with its bots and node-based "spell graphs" ("think ComfyUI for AI"), had been powerful but hard to start with, and that most users "wanted one smart agent that could do everything". The node editor and multi-bot "sims" were removed; existing workflows and bots could be exported as JSON but would not run in the new system.[4]

Glif held its official launch on 23 April 2026. To demonstrate the agent, the company had Glif make all five of its launch videos in chat sessions; according to the post, the agent used models including GPT Image 2, Gemini 3.1, Seedance 2.0, Kling o3, Veo and ElevenLabs voices. The same post announced the seed round.[2] The old workflow API was retired on 20 May 2026, replaced by the Glif MCP server and a new Glif API.[21]

a16z partner Justine Moore wrote the firm's announcement. She described Glif as "one AI agent with virtually every model built in" and compared it to Claude Code "for creative work", with the user acting as creative director while the agent handles tools and technical decisions. She said millions of creators had built on the first version of the platform.[3] Caplight lists the round as $18 million; Glif's own announcement gives $17.5 million.[2][17]

Product

The agent

Glif 2.0 has one agent per chat, powered by a large language model, with access to more than 100 native tools. At launch the company listed tools for image generation and editing (Flux, Black Forest Labs, Fal), video (Runway, Kling, Seedance, WaveSpeed, Veo), audio and voice (ElevenLabs text-to-speech, lip-sync), text and code (Claude, GPT, Gemini, code sandboxes), web search and screenshots, and media processing (FFmpeg, Remotion, compositing). Tools are loaded by semantic search, so the agent does not hold all of them in its context at once. Responses can include inline image galleries, video and audio players and comparison views.[4]

Its documentation says Glif uses models from providers including OpenAI, Google, Black Forest Labs, ByteDance, Kling, MiniMax and ElevenLabs, and positions the product at marketing teams producing ads, product photography, social content and short videos.[21] Other features added through 2026, per the changelog:

Skills are instruction packages that tell the agent how to approach a creative task, such as music-video production or character design. They replaced the per-bot configuration of the old platform.[4] a16z describes them as "proven creative recipes built from the accumulated knowledge of millions of creative AI runs", covering formats such as short-form video, AI influencer content, infographics and music-video lip-sync.[3]

Tool approvals let a user auto-approve every tool call, be asked before each one, or auto-approve only calls below a set credit cost.[4]

Characters and the "AI modeling agency"

Glif Characters launched on 28 September 2026 as a cast of more than 150 original AI models for ads, films and campaigns. Each character has a profile listing casting age, height, look and languages, plus a reference sheet with front, three-quarter, profile and over-the-shoulder views. Glif passes that sheet to the image or video model in use so the same face appears across a series of shots; the company says the references are prepared for Seedance 2.5.[10][19] A user casts a character by clicking "Cast" (or "Book" on a profile), which opens a chat with the character already in the prompt, and several characters can appear in one message.[10] On 26 October 2026 Glif added the ability to create a custom character from as little as one image.[10]

On 30 October 2026 Glif's X account announced what it called an AI modeling agency "right inside Glif", inviting users to "cast hundreds of real AI models, drop your product, idea or brief" and let Glif produce the content end to end; Glif described it as the first such agency, a marketing claim.[1] The feature is the characters page, which Glif's site footer labels "Model agency". As of 1 November 2026 that page is headed "Real AI models, ready for your next campaign", lists 165 characters, and shows example ads made with ElevenLabs Music, GPT Image 2.5 and Seedance 2.5, under the tagline "No shoot · No creator fees · Ready in minutes".[18] Glif's own documentation states that the characters are fictional and tells advertisers not to present them as real customers, employees or reviewers, warning that AI testimonials can mislead audiences and may break advertising rules.[19]

A related tool, UGC Studio, produces user-generated-content-style product videos. The user uploads up to three product photos, picks a character and a format (unboxing, talking to camera, "get ready with me" or honest review), and approves a plan before rendering. As of 1 November 2026 the page priced a Seedance 2.5 take at 208 credits and a cheaper H3 Max draft at 162 credits.[20]

MCP server and API

Glif can be driven from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI applications through its Model Context Protocol server, or from code through the Glif API; both draw on the user's Glif account and credits.[11][21] The open-source glif-mcp-server repository on GitHub had 218 stars as of 1 November 2026.[22]

Pricing

Glif charges in credits, with 1 credit equal to $0.01;[4] rates vary by media type and underlying model.[24] New users receive bonus credits valid for up to 30 days. Monthly plans as of 1 November 2026:[24]

Subscription credits do not roll over between billing cycles; purchased credit packs expire after six months. All plans include commercial rights to outputs.[24] The documentation adds that commercial use is subject to each underlying model's license, and that each account belongs to one person, with no shared team workspaces.[21]
