Grok for Startups
Grok for Startups is a startup credits program run by SpaceXSI, the brand under which SpaceX's artificial intelligence business (formerly xAI) operates.[1][2][5] Approved companies receive promotional usage credits that can be spent from a single balance on four products: the Grok assistant, the Grok Build coding agent, the Grok Bot agent product, and the Grok API.[1][2] The program is aimed at venture-backed startups with a live product. SpaceXSI says it sizes each grant to the applicant's funding, revenue and current AI spend, and does not publish a dollar amount.[1][2] The program terms carry a "Last updated" date of October 7, 2026, and the program was publicized on X from October 22, 2026.[2][6][7]

Background
SpaceX's AI unit was branded SpaceXAI before the program launched (the xAI and SpaceX articles cover the corporate history). On October 4, 2026, Elon Musk replied "Yes, we will make that change" to a user on X who asked about renaming SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, following US President Donald Trump's push to say "super intelligence" instead of "artificial intelligence". Reuters reported that Musk gave no timeline for the change.[9] By late October the x.ai website, including the startup program pages, was titled "SpaceXSI", while the legal entity named in the program terms remained SpaceXAI LLC.[1][2]
The name change is visible in the terms themselves. A copy of the terms page saved by the Internet Archive on October 9, 2026 carries the same October 7 date but uses "SpaceXAI" as the short name for the company. The version live on October 25 defines SpaceXAI LLC as "SpaceXSI".[2][8]
Launch
The program terms are dated October 7, 2026, and the terms page was publicly reachable by October 9.[2][8] Public attention arrived on October 22, 2026. At 18:30 UTC, the X account @ns123abc wrote that "SpaceXSI has launched Grok for Startups" and linked to x.ai/startups. X reported more than 285,000 views of the post as of October 25.[6] An analysis by TwitterAPI.io, a third-party X data vendor, counted 127 on-topic posts about the program over its first two days, 56 of them on launch day, and found no program post from the @SpaceXSI account in that sample.[7]
The same day, SpaceXSI announced the SpaceX Super Intelligence Partner Network, which it called its "official program for companies building products, solutions, and services with Grok". The network has two partner types: "Transformation Partners", which help customers deploy the Grok platform across the enterprise, and "Marketplace Partners", which build plugins and integrations. SpaceXSI said more than 130 companies took part in its early-access phase. Launch partners quoted in the announcement included Bain & Company, Databricks, NVIDIA and Snowflake.[10] It should not be confused with the VC and accelerator partner track of Grok for Startups described below.
The "1:1 match" claim
The @ns123abc post also said that "every single dollar you spend gets matched 1:1 in free credits next month, for six months straight".[6] As of October 25, 2026, that offer did not appear on the program page, the application page, the partner page or the program terms. None of those pages mentions a spend match.[1][2][3][4] The terms say a startup is entitled only to the credits stated in its approval email, that descriptions in marketing materials and emails "do not modify these Program Terms", and that credits "cannot be combined with any other promotion" unless SpaceXSI agrees in writing.[2] TwitterAPI.io found that 30 of the 127 posts in its sample mentioned a match, and that posts repeating it drew about 5.7 times as many views as posts describing the documented 20%/80% release.[7]
What the program offers
The program page, headlined "Everything you need to build an ambitious company", promises "credits and support across Grok, Grok Build, Grok Bot, and the Grok API, all in one place."[1] It makes four commitments under "About the program":[1]
| Element | What the program page says |
|---|---|
| Credits sized to goals | "We aim to offer six to twelve months of real usage." |
| One balance | Credits can be used on Grok, Grok Build, Grok Bot and the Grok API "without juggling separate grants." |
| Staged release | "You get 20% when you're approved. The other 80% is released automatically once you're up and running." |
| Support | "Hands-on onboarding when you need it, and a direct line to our startups team as you grow." |
The FAQ gives a narrower target, saying the amount "depends on your funding, revenue, and current AI spend" and that SpaceXSI aims "for about six months of realistic usage." It says the remaining 80% is released once the company has "completed the initial onboarding steps" and the team is up and running.[1] The terms describe the same structure in contractual language: the approval email states the credit amount, the "Tranche structure", the "Tranche 2 Criteria" and the expiration date.[2] No typical or maximum grant has been published, and the terms state that "typical or target Credit amounts" given on the program page, in FAQs or in emails "are informational only and are not a commitment."[2]
When credits run out, usage continues at standard pricing. The FAQ says companies that are scaling fast or need enterprise features, such as higher rate limits or a BAA (business associate agreement), will be connected with SpaceXSI's team.[1]
Products covered
The program page presents each covered product with a short pitch:[1]
| Product | Program page description |
|---|---|
| Grok Build | "Ship with Grok Build and Cursor": a cloud agent turns a feature request into a pull request in the background |
| Grok Bot | "Run the company and GTM with Grok Bot": sales follow-ups, recruiting pipelines and weekly reports |
| Grok API | "Put frontier models inside your own product"; the sample code calls the model grok-4.7 (Grok 4.7) |
| Grok | "Research, write drafts, and get answers fast" |
A "Top startups build with Grok" strip on the page shows company logos, among them Basis, Exa, Gumloop, Handshake, Higgsfield, Ramp, Together AI and You.com. The page also quotes posts from X users about building with Grok 4.5, Grok Build and Grok Bot.[1] The page does not say whether the companies shown received program credits.
Eligibility
According to the FAQ, SpaceXSI checks every application "for venture backing, a live product, and a company email that matches your website." Companies that do not yet qualify can reapply after raising money, and applications from personal email addresses cannot be approved.[1]
The terms list the factors SpaceXSI may weigh, "including, but not limited to, funding, investors, revenue, current AI spend, traction, team size, intended use, Program capacity, and the results of verification", and leave final eligibility to the company's "sole discretion".[2] They also exclude:[2]
- companies whose group or representatives appear on sanctions or export-control lists, or are located in a country or territory under comprehensive US sanctions;
- employees, contractors and representatives (and their immediate families) of SpaceXSI, Anysphere, Inc., Space Exploration Technologies Corp., Tesla, Inc. and X Corp.
The program is "intended for companies that have not already received significant promotional credits" from SpaceXSI, and applicants must disclose all promotional credits their group has previously received from the company or its affiliates.[2] The FAQ nonetheless says companies that got credits from an earlier program can still apply and "may be able to" receive additional credits.[1]
Application process
Startups apply through a form at x.ai/startups/apply, which the page says takes about five minutes.[4] It lists three steps: SpaceXSI verifies the company and its funding, sizes credits "to your stage and current usage", and sends a decision by email. If a company is approved, "your first set of credits are ready the same day."[4]
The form asks for:[4]
| Field group | What is requested |
|---|---|
| Identity | Name, job title, company name, company website, optional company X handle, work email (on the same domain as the website), LinkedIn profile, city and country |
| Account | A Team ID from the SpaceXSI console (console.x.ai); the submitted email must be associated with that team |
| Spend and revenue | Current monthly AI spend (from "Not spending yet" to "Over $100,000") and current annual revenue (from "Pre-revenue" to "Over $10M") |
| Usage | Optional customer traction (weekly or monthly active users) and how the credits will be spent (Grok Main, Grok Build, Grok Bot, Grok API or "Not sure yet") |
| Funding | Date of last fundraise, optional amount raised, investors, team size and industry |
| Partners | Optional partner code or verification link |
Under the terms, a company group may have only one application pending at a time. SpaceXSI may verify applications through public and third-party business data and by contacting the investors or accelerators named, and it may decline an application if requested information is not provided within ten days.[2] Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Instead of granting credits, SpaceXSI may decline an application or refer the company to its sales team, and it may "pause, limit, or prioritize approvals at any time, including to manage the Program budget." It commits to no review timeline.[2]
VC and accelerator partners
A second track lets investors bring the offer to their portfolio companies. The partner page says participating funds get "a guaranteed minimum credit grant for the startups you back", a listing of the offer on the fund's perks page, and one point of contact on the startups team. The sign-up form accepts venture capital funds, accelerators, incubators, angel groups or syndicates, corporate venture arms and other fund types.[3]
The terms limit what a partner can promise. A minimum credit amount described for a partner's portfolio applies only if the startup's own application is approved under the program terms, and program partners "are not our agents" and cannot change the terms or make commitments for SpaceXSI.[2]
Credit terms
The main conditions in the Grok for Startups Program Terms are:[2]
| Topic | Term |
|---|---|
| Expiry | Six months after the credits are applied to the team account, unless the approval email says otherwise; unused credits are then forfeited |
| Forfeiture | Also on account closure, suspension or termination for breach, or withdrawal from the program |
| Excluded charges | Taxes; fees incurred before credits are applied or after they expire; third-party products, marketplace items, X Corp. services (including X Premium), professional services and hardware; past-due amounts; fees under committed-spend or prepaid arrangements unless agreed in writing |
| Use | Own business use only; credits may not benefit unaffiliated companies, and usage paid for with credits may not be resold |
| Transfer | Credits are personal to the team account and cannot be sold or transferred, including to an affiliate, without written permission |
| Value | Denominated in US dollars, no cash value, not refundable, and do not change in value if prices change |
| Grant limit | One grant per company group; splitting a business across entities, accounts or domains to get more credits is prohibited |
| Program changes | SpaceXSI may modify, suspend or end the program at any time; credits already applied stay usable until expiry if the program ends, except for legal, regulatory or security reasons |
| Liability | SpaceXSI's total liability relating to the program is capped at $100 |
| Publicity | Participants may say publicly that they are in the program; SpaceXSI may name participants in its marketing |
The terms supplement the usual service agreements, which they list as the "Applicable Terms". These include SpaceXSI's enterprise and consumer terms of service, its Grok Bot terms, acceptable use policy and privacy policy, and also the terms of service, Grok Bot terms, acceptable use policy and privacy policy of Anysphere, Inc., the company behind Cursor (see Anysphere).[2] Disputes are governed by the governing-law, class-action-waiver and limitations-period sections of SpaceXSI's enterprise terms.[2]
Comparison with other AI startup programs
Several other AI and cloud companies run startup programs. Their published terms differ in how credits are sized and who can get them. The figures below are as published on each program's page on October 25, 2026.
| Program | Operator | Published credit terms | Access route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grok for Startups | SpaceXSI | No published amount; aims for six to twelve months of usage; 20% on approval, 80% after onboarding[1] | Direct application; VC and accelerator partners can also offer a minimum grant, which applies only if the startup is approved[1][2][3] |
| Claude Startups | Anthropic | Members get discounts and credits "worth up to $45,000" from companies building with Claude; startups backed by a VC in Anthropic's partner network "may be eligible" for up to $100K in additional API credits[11] | The page said the current cohort was full and new applications were closed[11] |
| OpenAI startup program | OpenAI | API credits, rate-limit upgrades and technical support; no amount published[12] | Credits are unlocked through a referral code from a VC in OpenAI's partner network[12] |
| Google for Startups Cloud Program | Google Cloud | Up to $350,000 in Cloud credits over two years; a $2,000 Start tier for startups founded in the past two years that plan to seek venture funding, and $200,000 to $350,000 for the funded Scale and Scale AI tiers[13] | Direct application; funded tiers require verifiable pre-seed to Series A funding[13] |
| NVIDIA Inception | NVIDIA | No fixed grant published; members can access free cloud credits "from NVIDIA and partners" and preferred pricing (as a rebate) on a subset of enterprise GPUs[14] | Free membership with no application fees or equity requirements[14] |
Like Google's program, Grok for Startups requires an email on the company's own domain and sizes awards by funding.[1][13] Unlike Google and Anthropic, SpaceXSI publishes no ceiling, so the size of a grant is known only from the approval email.[1][2]
