Personal Finance in Claude
Personal Finance in Claude is a consumer feature from Anthropic that connects financial accounts to Claude through Plaid. It provides read-only analysis of account information and cannot transfer, manage or invest money.[1]
Availability
Anthropic announced the beta on November 5, 2026, for US subscribers to Claude Pro, Claude Max and Claude Ultra.[2]
| Requirement | Documented availability |
|---|---|
| Platforms | Web, desktop, iOS, Android |
| Rollout | Gradual |
| Excluded plans | Free, Team, Enterprise |
| Institutions | US banks only |
The table summarizes the Help Center's availability requirements.[3]
Functions
Claude can categorize spending, compare months, identify recurring charges, and highlight possible duplicate payments or unexpected fees. It can explain financial terms and calculate amounts such as interest charged. Users can request spending charts, bill calendars and adjustable dashboards.[1]
Anthropic says the feature contains no advertising or sponsored recommendations and does not sell its own banking or lending products. It describes the feature as a way to understand money rather than obtain investment advice, and warns that answers can be wrong.[1]
Account connection and data access
Setup starts in the Personal Finance sidebar. The user reviews access, authenticates through Plaid and selects accounts to share.[3] Claude does not ask for or receive the bank password.[1]
| Information | Access described at launch |
|---|---|
| Institution and account identity | Bank name, account name and type, and last four digits |
| Account figures | Balances and credit limits |
| Transaction history | Up to two years |
Only selected accounts are connected.[1] Investment and loan connections do not provide holdings, trades, interest rates or contract terms. Full account numbers can nevertheless appear if the bank places them in an account name or transaction description.[3]
Accuracy and operating limits
The Help Center identifies several limits:[3]
| Limit | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Data age | Balances can lag 1-2 days |
| Missing bank | Totals omit unreadable accounts |
| Duplicates | Multiple logins can double-count |
| Unsupported workflows | Scheduled/Cowork tasks, Claude Code, Claude Duet |
| Exports | Dashboard excluded |
Privacy and sharing
Conversations in the Personal Finance hub are excluded from model training. Information shared outside that hub follows the user's privacy settings.[1]
Shared chats expose the financial figures they contain. Published artifacts can retain figures after their originating chat is deleted. Unlinking stops new account reads but does not erase existing chats or artifacts.[3]
Anthropic's general consumer retention policy says deleting a conversation removes it from the visible history immediately and from backend storage within 30 days. It also specifies exceptions for legal obligations, disputes, policy enforcement and feedback. This is a retention policy, separate from whether a conversation is eligible for training; the feature's training exclusion does not imply zero storage.[4]
Disconnecting accounts
Unlinking the last bank also irreversibly resets the dashboard. Expiry of a paid plan prevents access but leaves banks linked until removed.[3]
Plaid Portal provides another route to disconnect an app. Plaid distinguishes stopping future sharing from deleting information already held by an app: disconnection alone does not remove that information. Portal also provides controls to review connections and request deletion of data held in Plaid's own systems. Plaid's controls and Anthropic's chat-deletion controls therefore address different stores of information.[5][6]
Relationship to financial services products
Personal Finance serves consumers with connected personal accounts. Claude for Financial Services is Anthropic's separate institutional offering for banks, insurers, asset managers and other financial firms, with market-data integrations and professional workflows.[7]
