Sunra MCP is a tool integration for generating media through an AI assistant connected to Sunra. It uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which standardizes connections between AI applications and external tools. It connects assistants to hosted models rather than supplying a new foundation model.[2][3]

The integration is part of Sunra's broader hosted model platform. The developer platform also offers ordinary model APIs and client libraries. Its multimodal API, language-model API and MCP integration are separate interfaces; the availability of a model through one interface does not establish that every other interface exposes the same features.[4][5]

Connection methods

Sunra documents hosted connectors, a CLI route and a separate local developer package.[1][5][6]

RouteDocumented setupAuthentication
Hosted MCP connectionRemote server: https://mcp.sunra.aiBrowser sign-in and OAuth authorization[1]
Agent CLI@sunra/cli; sunra login, sunra balance, sunra toolsBrowser sign-in[1]
Local developer MCP server@sunra/mcp-server, configured in an editor or assistantAPI key through SUNRA_KEY[5][6]

Expanded article table

The product page lists CLI setup for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity and Grok Bot, and native connectors for Claude and ChatGPT. Other hosted-route clients need remote-server and OAuth support.[1]

The local package is documented separately. Its repository supports standard input/output transport and an HTTP mode. Its API-key requirement should not be confused with the hosted connector's browser authorization flow.[5][6]

Media generation and job management

Sunra advertises image, video, speech, music and textured 3D generation, including reference-media workflows and GLB output for 3D assets.[1] These capabilities belong to the selected models; MCP supplies the connection to tools.[3]

The developer MCP server exposes tools for discovering models and inspecting the schemas that describe their inputs and outputs. It also exposes queue operations, allowing an assistant to submit a job, check it and retrieve its result.[5][6]

This list describes the published local server package. It is not a claim that the hosted OAuth server and CLI expose identical tool names or permission controls.[5][6]

Credits and pricing

Sunra MCP spends credits from the same account balance as the Sunra web application. Its product FAQ says an assistant can inspect the balance and estimate a generation's cost. Spending normally requires confirmation, unless auto-confirm is enabled. Generated results are stored in a Sunra project and returned to the assistant as links.[1]

Sunra describes its pricing rule as matching a maker's published API price where such a price exists, converted at $0.01 per credit. Subscription tiers and annual billing can reduce the effective price of a credit. The company explicitly says this does not make it the cheapest provider for every model. Its comparison excludes models for which it could not verify a maker API price and depends on the selected settings, billing period and competitors' plans.[2]

Plan credits refresh each billing cycle and do not roll over. Therefore, a per-generation figure calculated from the full allowance does not by itself establish the actual cost for an account that uses only part of its subscription.[7]

The separate developer pricing documentation also distinguishes upfront prices from usage-settled charges. Most endpoint prices depend on the submitted parameters, while some models settle after completion using actual output usage. Resolution, duration and other endpoint options can therefore matter more than a headline price.[8]

Data handling and permissions

Sunra states that it does not use prompts, uploaded files or generated content to train its own models. Its trust page describes encrypted transmission and storage, but also says it does not hold SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification.[9]

Generation requests still reach external providers. Sunra's sub-processor list identifies model providers and hosting gateways that may receive prompts and reference media. The page labels written no-training and no-retention commitments from those providers as work in progress. Sunra's own training policy therefore does not establish a universal no-retention guarantee for every model provider.[10]

The privacy policy says Sunra retains account information while an account is active or as needed to provide the service, and stores generation history and output. Some information may also be retained for legal or fraud-prevention purposes.[11]

Connected applications can be disconnected through Sunra's account controls.[1] For the API-key route, Sunra warns that a key grants access to the account balance and should not be embedded in browser or mobile client code. Its recommended pattern places authenticated requests behind a backend.[12]

Generated-content terms

Sunra's terms grant personal and commercial use of generated content subject to the applicable model's license terms. This qualification matters when using different providers through one integration: a shared connection does not replace each model's conditions. The service also prohibits illegal or infringing generation and impersonation of real people without consent. It is supplied without a guarantee of uninterrupted or error-free operation.[13]
