Meta Starfire
Meta Starfire is a pair of camera-equipped AI glasses that Meta designed in collaboration with Kylie Jenner and sells in its own-brand Meta Glasses line, which it makes with the eyewear group EssilorLuxottica. It went on sale on 23 June 2026 at $399, $100 more than the Meta Adventurer and Meta Fury, the two frames it launched alongside [1][2]. Meta's store sells it as the Meta Starfire Kylie Edition: a slim oval frame with a small gem on the lens, metal nose pads, a folding charging case with a mirror inside, and an option that makes Meta AI answer in Jenner's voice [3][4][5].
Inside, it matches the other Meta Glasses frames, with six microphones, open-ear speakers, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, Meta's rating of more than eight hours of battery life, and no display [3][18]. The glasses shipped with Meta AI running on Muse Spark, the first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, although Meta later clarified that this applied from day one only in the US and Canada [1]. An Ivory colorway, also from $399, followed on 23 September 2026 at Meta Connect 2026 [6]. Hands-on reviewers singled out the frame's fit and styling [7][2], while commentators contrasted Jenner's public complaints about being watched with her promotion of a camera wearable [8][9].
Name
Meta uses two names for the model. Its launch announcement called the third frame "Meta Glasses by Kylie", a "unique slim oval frame" inspired by Jenner's personal style [1]. The store product page calls it "Meta Starfire Kylie Edition", and Meta's Kylie Jenner landing page is headed "Meta Glasses | Starfire" [3][4].
Announcement and release
Meta Glasses debuted on 23 June 2026 with three frames from Meta and EssilorLuxottica: the rectangular Adventurer, the bolder Fury and the Kylie Jenner design [1]. Meta's blog post called the collection Jenner's "first venture into wearable tech" [10]. Sales began that day on Meta.com and at retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, LensCrafters and Sunglass Hut, in the 17 countries listed in Meta's launch blog: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States [10].
Meta Glasses went on sale in Japan on 26 August 2026, and Meta's Japanese announcement listed the Kylie design among the three styles [11]. At Connect, Meta said the line was available from that day in Mexico, Singapore, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates, with Brazil to follow, although its Connect round-up listed the UAE as "coming soon" [6][12].
The Ivory colorway was announced the same day. Meta said that, "building on the success of Meta Glasses by Kylie Jenner", it was releasing Ivory as "a fresh take on her signature Starfire style", starting at $399 [6]. In Engadget's report, Ivory is an off-white version of the frame [13]. By mid-October 2026 the Ivory and black-lens version was in stock on Meta's US store next to the three launch configurations [3].
Design
The frame is a slim oval, a shape Meta's product page ties to Jenner's "signature style" [3]. Reviewers placed it close to the cat-eye family: Engadget's Karissa Bell called it a "cat eye shape" and Tom's Guide an "oval cat-eye style" [14][7]. UploadVR's David Heaney called the Starfire EssilorLuxottica's smallest frame yet and wrote that it looks strikingly like the Gentle Monster smart glasses Google unveiled at I/O in May 2026, months before those glasses reach stores [16]. Gizmodo's James Pero wrote that many people he saw try the frames, himself included, preferred their size and fit despite a "distinctly less Ray-Ban profile" [2].
Two details set it apart from the other Meta Glasses frames. The first is a small gem on the lens near the camera. Meta says the custom gem is "designed to catch the light" [4]. Engadget's Cherlynn Low wrote that it is "a small nod to how Jenner gets hounded by paparazzi, with the way it catches light seeming like flashes of cameras" [17]. Meta's specification sheet notes that the gem is not included when prescription lenses are fitted [3]. The second is the metal nose pads, which Meta's Kylie Jenner page calls "make-up-proof" [4]. According to UploadVR, Meta says the metal keeps the nose pad from absorbing makeup, and Low noticed less makeup residue on the Starfire than on an Adventurer demo unit she tried later [16][17].
Meta calls the nose pads three-way adjustable, with 15 degrees of adjustment across three cranks, and says the temple tips can be bent inward by up to 5 mm. The frame is designed to sit further down the nose than some wearers expect, and Meta advises letting it rest on the lower bridge rather than pushing it up [3]. It has a high bridge fit, comes in one size and, like the other Meta Glasses frames, has over-extension hinges and adjustable temple tips [18].
The Starfire comes with the same foldable charging case as most Meta Glasses, a design UploadVR compared to the case of Meta Ray-Ban Display [16]. The Starfire's version has a mirror inside, a detail reported by The Next Web, Gizmodo and Tom's Guide [5][2][7]. Meta says the Kylie Edition is "exclusively packaged", and its comparison chart lists bespoke packaging with a personalized note card, which the Adventurer and Fury columns do not [4][18].
Hardware
Engadget quoted Ming Hua, Meta's vice president of wearable devices, as saying the line used "the same hardware platform as our best-selling AI glasses" [17]. Meta's specification sheet for the Starfire gives the same camera, audio, battery, storage and connectivity figures as the one for the Adventurer; the frames differ in dimensions and weight [3][19].

VR & AR Wiki's Meta Starfire article lists the full hardware specifications.
Meta does not name the processor on its specification or comparison pages, and reports differ [3][18]. UploadVR and Tom's Guide said the Starfire uses the same chip as Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2), while Android Central reported from Meta's launch event that the line uses the newer chipset introduced with Meta Ray-Ban Display; in a later review, Android Central found no tangible real-world advantage beyond some Meta AI conversations being marginally faster [16][7][20][21]. The Next Web's launch report gave the microphone count as five, but Meta's sheet lists six [5][3].
At $399 the Starfire cost $20 more than Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) did at its September 2025 launch, although the Gen 2 case holds more charge, with 48 additional hours against up to 40 for the folding case [22][3].
Meta AI and Muse Spark
Assistant and model
Wearers reach Meta AI by saying "Hey Meta" or by pressing the action button on the top of the right temple. By default the button starts a Meta AI conversation; owners can remap it to a capture mode, live translation or a call to the Be My Eyes volunteer service [20][10]. Owners manage the glasses through the Meta AI phone app, which Meta says is also where they adjust settings, share photos and talk to the assistant [3].
Meta Superintelligence Labs announced Muse Spark on 8 April 2026 as "a natively multimodal reasoning model with support for tool-use, visual chain of thought, and multi-agent orchestration" [23]. Meta began rolling it out to Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses in the US and Canada in May; Meta Glasses were the first of its glasses to ship with it [24][1]. A note added to the launch announcement on 23 July 2026 limited that day-one claim to the US and Canada, "rolling out in more markets over time" [1]. The v26 software update, released from the week of 29 June 2026 for Meta Glasses, Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta, described Muse Spark as "next-gen Meta AI on your glasses delivering smarter answers, with enhanced visual perception" [25]. The release notes and store pages name the model only as Muse Spark, with no version number; in July Meta said Muse Spark 1.1 powered the Meta AI app and meta.ai [25][26].
Meta's product page lists answers "based on what you see and say", local recommendations "pulling from real reviews and up-to-date info", live translation, hands-free calls and video calls on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, live location sharing, and a Spotify-powered "Music match" that picks a song for the view in front of the wearer [3]. Tom's Guide reported that recommendations also factor in what people discuss on Threads and Facebook [7]. On the camera side, dynamic photo captures several frames per shot and recommends the best one, and the v26 update added Photo Ultra HDR [3][25]. For blind and low-vision users, Meta lists enhanced AI responses, reading text aloud verbatim, and hands-free video calls to Be My Eyes volunteers [4].
Kylie Jenner's voice
Meta's product page promises "the first and only AI glasses with Meta AI voiced by Kylie herself", its Kylie Jenner page says wearers hear every response in her voice, and its FAQ limits the voice to Starfire frames [3][4]. Engadget reported that the Jenner voice can be chosen for the assistant and for the glasses' other spoken prompts, including onboarding and the battery readout. It did not work on Low's first demo unit, but on a second pair she heard "what sounded like an AI version of Jenner's voice" [17]. Android Central described it as "a custom Meta AI voice modeled after Kylie Jenner's" and also noted special action sounds [20]. According to WWD, the recordings include some of Jenner's catchphrases, such as "rise and shine", and putting the glasses on or taking them off triggers a "custom sparkling chime" that WWD credits to her [27].
Translation and navigation
Live translation on Meta Glasses covers 20 languages, according to Meta: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Swedish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese [10]. Fourteen of them arrived with the v26 update in the week after launch [25]. Only English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and German work offline, once their language packs are downloaded; the rest need a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection, and Android Central reported at launch that the newly added languages rely on cloud processing [28][20]. The other person can read the translated speech as text in the Meta AI app or play it aloud from the phone [28].
Pedestrian navigation, which Meta described at launch as "coming soon" for displayless glasses, has since arrived [1][31]. Gizmodo reported on 31 August 2026 that it came with version 128 of the glasses' firmware, and 9to5Google described v128 as broadly available by early October [29][30]. Wearers ask for directions to a nearby place and hear turn-by-turn instructions through the speakers, with a companion map in the Meta AI app. Meta's help page lists Meta Glasses among the supported models and gives coverage as all of the US and Puerto Rico, all of Canada, and Paris, Hamburg, Rome, Milan, Naples, London and Manchester; the map data comes from Overture and OpenStreetMap [31].
On-device and cloud processing
Meta's engineers say that simple commands, such as placing a call or answering a text hands-free, run entirely on the glasses, while more advanced features need models far larger than a pair of glasses can hold, so that work happens in the cloud [32]. At Connect, Meta said it would extend Private Processing, the confidential-computing system it introduced in 2025 for WhatsApp and the Meta AI app, to its AI glasses, running models inside confidential virtual machines "such that even Meta cannot access your data" for workloads such as streaming transcription, contextual search and long-term recall [32]. Meta listed it as "coming soon" without giving a date [33]. Photos and videos captured for the gallery are stored on the glasses until the wearer imports them to a phone [34].
Unavailable and upcoming features
The shared v26 notes also list conversation focus, a feature that amplifies the voice of the person in front of the wearer. Meta's help page for the feature, however, says it is not available on Meta Glasses [25][35].
Meta says hearing enhancement, unveiled at Connect, is cleared by the FDA and meant for people 18 and older whose hearing loss is perceived as mild to moderate. Meta plans a US launch later in 2026 on "supported AI glasses"; buyers would pay $149.99 for it or get it through a Meta One subscription [12]. Meta's written announcement did not name the supported models, but in the keynote Mark Zuckerberg said, according to HearingTracker's transcript, that "hearing enhancement is coming first to Meta Glasses" [12][36].
Meta also plans to put Muse, the personal AI agent it released in September 2026, on its glasses [33]. The Connect round-up gave the timing as "in the coming months" and said wearers would call up the agent by saying its name; it could then act on whatever they are looking at, such as a product on a shelf or a flier on a wall [12]. UploadVR noted that Zuckerberg said "in the coming weeks" on stage [37].
| Date | Release | What changed or was announced |
|---|---|---|
| 23 June 2026 | Launch | Ships with Muse Spark-based Meta AI, from launch day in the US and Canada; Meta introduces dynamic photo the same month [1] |
| Week of 29 June 2026 | v26 | Muse Spark; dynamic photo; Photo Ultra HDR; Instagram Instants; WhatsApp voice chats; in-call voice commands; Battery Saver Mode; Japanese and Korean device languages; 14 new live translation languages [25] |
| Late August to early October 2026 | v128 | Turn-by-turn walking directions and spatial audio, as reported by Gizmodo and 9to5Google [29][30][31] |
| 23 September 2026 | Connect announcements | Muse "in the coming months", Dolby Atmos video capture and Private Processing, all announced for Meta's AI glasses without a model list; hearing enhancement (US, later in 2026), which Zuckerberg said would come first to Meta Glasses [12][33][36] |
Configurations and pricing
The Starfire launched in three frame and lens combinations, and the Ivory frame made four [16][6].
US buyers can pay in installments through Affirm, starting at $33.25 a month with 0% APR [3]. The frame takes single-vision and progressive prescription lenses from -12.00 to +2.25 total power, although at launch Meta said orders placed on Meta.com were limited to -6 to +2.25; buyers can also have an optician fit lenses later, and Meta says doing so does not void the warranty [3][10]. Meta.com began taking prescription orders in Canada on 23 September 2026 [44].
Availability
The Starfire has been sold since 23 June 2026 in the 17 launch countries, and buyers in the US can try it on at Meta Lab stores [10][3]. In mid-October 2026 Meta's Japanese store listed all four configurations as in stock, as did its stores in Mexico, Singapore, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates [43][46][47][48][49].
Reception
Launch hands-ons were mostly positive about the design. Kate Kozuch of Tom's Guide named the Kylie edition her favorite pair in the lineup and wrote that she thought it was the most "non-smart glasses looking" pair of smart glasses ever made [7]. Gizmodo's Pero wrote that people would be surprised at "how thoughtfully designed the Kylie smart glasses are" [2]. Android Central's Nick Sutrich noted that the Starfire was the only Meta Glasses model with its own software features, namely the Jenner voice and custom sounds, along with the mirrored case; otherwise he found no differences from Meta's 2025 glasses in battery life, photo or video quality, or audio [21].
Early impressions of the assistant were mixed. Gizmodo found Muse Spark "snappier than the old Meta AI" and more conversational, but said it still struggled at times to understand what the wearer was looking at [2]. Low reported that it quickly described the launch event and translated an Arabic sign, but kept mistaking her DSLR's lens for a glasses case [17]. In Engadget's July review of the line, Bell wrote that the Muse Spark update "has generally led to a smoother and more capable assistant" [14].
Privacy criticism
The Jenner partnership drew criticism centered on privacy. In a Trusted Reviews opinion column on 4 July 2026, Jessica Gorringe called the collaboration "surprising and disappointing for so many reasons", pointing to Jenner's own descriptions of being pursued by paparazzi [8]. CNET's Katie Collins argued on 23 July that the launch "felt like an abrupt switch-up in the messaging around who smart glasses are aimed at", and that marketing the glasses to women was meeting open hostility from many of them [45]. On 31 July a Macquarie University article, republished by Mirage News, quoted Professor Dali Kaafar, executive director of the university's Cyber Security Hub, who called it "a great irony" that Jenner had become the face of the product and argued that Australia should ban or restrict use of the glasses except in genuine use cases such as disability [9].
In the wider smart glasses privacy debate, the bystander safeguard Meta points to is a white capture LED on the front of the frame, which blinks while photos or video are being captured and cannot be switched off [34][11]. Meta says the camera is disabled if the LED is blocked, and in July 2026 it said it was updating its glasses to also disable the camera if the LED is physically tampered with or destroyed; Engadget's Bell described this as a mandatory firmware update for all of Meta's glasses [34][14]. Gorringe argued that the light was small enough to be mistaken for a reflection [8].
