Meta Connect 2026
Meta Connect 2026 was the annual augmented reality, virtual reality and AI conference of Meta Platforms, held on September 23 and 24, 2026, at the company's headquarters in Menlo Park, California, and streamed online [7][8][9]. Mark Zuckerberg opened the event with a keynote on the afternoon of September 23, and a developer "State of the Union" keynote followed on the morning of September 24 [9][10]. The event centered on Muse, the personal AI agent Meta had launched earlier in September, which the company said would come to its AI glasses "in the coming months" [1]. Meta also announced Meta VR Glasses, a roughly 100-gram VR device with a tethered compute puck priced at $1,299.99 for a Spring 2027 release; Ray-Ban Meta Audio, its first AI glasses without a camera; Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3); new Meta Glasses styles; an FDA-cleared hearing enhancement feature; an international expansion of Meta Ray-Ban Display; and two AI game-creation tools, Horizon Create and Horizon Studio [1][2][3][4][6].
Most of the hardware shown at Connect 2026 was announced rather than shipped. Of the main products, Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) and Meta Ray-Ban Display in Canada and the UK went on sale on September 23; as of September 25, 2026, the others carried future dates ranging from October 2026 to Spring 2027 [2][3][4].
Background
Meta's Connect conference descends from Oculus Connect, a developer conference that Oculus VR first announced in July 2014 and held on September 19 and 20, 2014, in Hollywood, California [20]. At that event Oculus showed its "Crescent Bay" Rift prototype [21]. By 2020 the conference had been "recently rebranded as Facebook Connect to reflect its broader scope"; Facebook called that year's edition its "seventh annual AR/VR conference" and the first held entirely online [22]. At Connect 2021, Zuckerberg announced the company's new corporate name, Meta [23]. The following year's event, held online on October 11, 2022, was the second under the Meta Connect name [24].
In recent years the keynote has become Meta's main launch venue for smart glasses. Meta showed its Orion AR glasses prototype at Connect 2024 [25], and at Connect 2025 on September 17, 2025, it introduced Meta Ray-Ban Display with the Meta Neural Band at $799, the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses from $379, and the Oakley Meta Vanguard sports glasses at $499 [25][26][27].

Keynote and schedule
The main keynote began at 4 p.m. Pacific Time on September 23 and was streamed on Meta.com; Tom's Guide reported that a replay was later posted to YouTube [9]. Zuckerberg opened with a live demo and referred to "superintelligence" early in the presentation, according to Gizmodo's live coverage [8]. Social Media Today reported that Zuckerberg framed Muse as the centerpiece of the company's shift from the metaverse toward AI, saying Meta had originally expected the metaverse to arrive before advanced AI and had changed its approach [15].
Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief AI officer, was the first guest on stage and presented Muse's shopping connectors and other features [8][15]. Meta chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth joined Zuckerberg to present Meta VR Glasses [8][15]. A promotional segment for the VR Glasses included a cameo by Oculus founder Palmer Luckey, along with reactions from director James Cameron and YouTuber Casey Neistat, according to Gizmodo [8].
The second day opened with the Developer State of the Union at 10 a.m. PT on September 24, followed by sessions in four tracks: VR, AI glasses, AI, and Horizon [9][10]. Meta said the sessions would be available on demand [5][10].
Announcements
Muse and AI
Meta described Muse as "a first-of-a-kind personal AI agent" that it launched earlier in September 2026, and said at Connect that it would bring Muse to its AI glasses "in the coming months" [1]. On glasses, users will be able to say the agent's name and have Muse act on what they are looking at, such as a product on a shelf or a flyer on a wall, without describing it [1]. Meta also described a voice mode that allows long conversations while Muse keeps working in the background [1]. Meta said Zuckerberg also showed "a state-of-the-art model that brings your Muse to life" [1]; the same day, Meta's research blog introduced Muse Realtime Avatar, which it calls "state-of-the-art embodiment technology that turns Muse Realtime Voice into expressive, interactive avatars" [31].
Meta announced new shopping and productivity connectors for Muse. For shopping it listed Walmart, Best Buy, American Eagle Outfitters, DICK'S Sporting Goods, Fanatics, Gap, Michael Kors, Sephora, Ulta and Wayfair, plus Shop Pay and PayPal for payments; Instacart for groceries; Expedia for travel ("coming soon"); and Notion, Granola, GitHub and Box for work [1]. These joined the "dozens of partners" and the Shopify catalogue available at launch [1]. Meta also said each Muse agent would get its own email address, which it can use to get tasks done or as another way for the user to reach it [1]. Social Media Today reported that Zuckerberg said users would soon be able to customize their agent's voice, and that he highlighted Muse Secure VM, the dedicated cloud virtual machine each Muse runs on [15]. Meta's own security write-up says the current Secure VM restricts Meta personnel's access "through operational policies" but "does not prevent Meta from accessing data when necessary to support, secure or operate the service"; the stronger guarantee is reserved for a planned Muse Confidential VM, which Meta says is intended to "cryptographically and verifiably prevent Meta from accessing data" and which it plans to deliver later in 2026 [34]. Zuckerberg also said private processing would come to Meta's AI glasses [15]. Gizmodo noted that Meta had not specified which glasses features private processing would cover [8].
The company previewed Muse Charm, a pocket-sized device for talking with Muse that Meta said uses "a state of the art real-time voice model"; it said it would share more later in 2026 [1]. Gizmodo described it as a keychain carrying a Muse avatar, and Tom's Guide reported that no price had been announced [8][9].
Muse's developer program was a second thread. The Muse Connector Platform, which Meta's developer recap described as "recently launched," lets companies submit connectors that Meta reviews for functional, security and legal requirements before listing them in a directory inside Muse; Meta says it partnered with Stripe to handle payments through Link [5][19]. Zuckerberg opened the platform to developers on September 18 [32]. At the keynote, Wang said it had received more than 1,500 applications in less than a week, according to TechCrunch [33]; later on September 23, Jake Levine, whose X profile describes his role as product at Muse, wrote that it had received "over 2,000 submissions in just a few days since launch" [18].
At the developer keynote, Meta Superintelligence Labs reviewed the Muse model family: Muse Spark 1.3 (released on September 2, 2026), Muse Code (now out of beta and available on Windows), Muse Image, Muse Voice Transcribe, and the open-weights 30-billion-parameter Muse Glimmer [5][28]. Meta said its Meta Model API was generally available worldwide, that Muse Spark 1.3 was available through Oracle Cloud AI Platform, and that Google Cloud availability was in private preview [5]. It also announced the Meta Global AI Developer Hackathon, a virtual event with separate tracks for independent developers and startups and a $1 million cash prize pool [5].
AI glasses
Meta called its Connect 2026 glasses lineup its "biggest expansion of AI glasses yet," made with its eyewear partner EssilorLuxottica [2]. It said it would offer more than 100 different glasses options across Ray-Ban, Oakley and Meta Glasses by the end of 2026 [1][2].
Ray-Ban Meta Audio. Meta described these as its "first-ever audio glasses," which it says "pack the power of earbuds and AI" into a frame; unlike Meta's other AI glasses, they have no camera [2][14]. Meta says they weigh as little as 43 grams, making them its lightest and slimmest AI glasses, and are rated for up to 12 hours of use on a charge, with up to 48 more hours from the included case [2]. They come in two new Ray-Ban styles, Clubmaster and Burbank, in 23 color and lens combinations, and support prescription lenses [2]. Pre-orders opened on September 23 from $349 (US), with shipping on October 13, 2026 [2]. TechCrunch linked the product to criticism of camera-equipped smart glasses being used to record people without consent, and quoted Zuckerberg saying in the keynote: "Once you get used to high-quality audio, it's just a thing that you want all the time, right?" [14].
Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3). Meta called the third generation of its camera glasses the next generation of "the world's best-selling AI glasses" [2]. Meta lists a slimmer design, battery life of up to nine hours (one hour more than Gen 2), a customizable action button for Meta AI, a six-microphone array that it says removes more than 90% of background noise, a 12 MP camera and 3K Ultra HD video [2]. It comes in 27 color and lens combinations across Aviator, Zena (a new cat-eye frame) and Wayfarer, plus a limited-edition Aviator for the 90th anniversary of the Ray-Ban Aviator [2]. It went on sale on September 23 from $449 (US) [2], up from the $379 at which Gen 2 launched in September 2025 [27]. See Meta Ray-Ban AI Glasses.
Meta Glasses. Meta expanded its own-brand Meta Glasses line with two new styles, Capri and Nova [2]. New products included an Ivory colorway of the Meta Glasses by Kylie Jenner Starfire style (from $399), a collection designed with LISA of Blackpink comprising the Meta Adventurer LISA Edition and Meta Capri LISA Edition (both from $399), a limited-edition Meta Fury sold at Connect and Meta Lab stores, and a new Meta Adventurer with a plug-in case from $249, which Meta called its most affordable pair yet [2]. The $249 Adventurer went on pre-order on September 23 and goes on sale October 23 in all countries where Meta Glasses are sold [2]. Meta's newsroom post said any pair of Meta Glasses could now be customized through its Mix & Match program, while its meta.com Connect round-up described "a Mix & Match program in the US" [2][35]. The newsroom post and Meta's glasses blog said Meta Glasses went on sale that day in Singapore, South Korea, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates, with Brazil to follow; the round-up instead listed the United Arab Emirates alongside Brazil as "coming soon" [2][35][36].
Software features. Meta said that later in 2026 its AI glasses would become "the first consumer devices" able to capture video with Dolby Atmos 360-degree spatial sound [2]. It also added audio balance and mono audio options for all AI glasses wearers [1]. TechCrunch listed further teased features, including a mode that picks the best photo from multiple frames and a choice of landscape or portrait capture [14]. Meta also said it was bringing Private Processing, the confidential-computing system it first used for WhatsApp in 2025, to its AI glasses to "deliver rich AI experiences without anyone, including Meta, seeing your data"; it gave no date, and WIRED reported that the feature was not yet available on the glasses [37][38][39].
Meta Ray-Ban Display
For Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta announced cycling directions and real-time public transit departures (from later in September in the US and Canada), walking directions that refer to visible landmarks rather than street names, a voice-driven "hologram" of the wearer's face for WhatsApp video calls (rolling out in Early Access in the US later in the fall), a new on-glasses app store called Explore, calendar controls, mirrored phone notifications, and Threads community feeds [4].
Meta also introduced online ordering in the US and five new markets. The glasses went on sale on September 23 in Canada and the UK, including retail in Vancouver, Toronto and London, while pre-orders began in France, Italy and Germany ahead of availability on October 13 [4]. At Connect 2025, Meta had said it planned to expand to Canada, France, Italy and the UK in early 2026 [25].
Meta VR Glasses
Meta VR Glasses were the main hardware announcement. Road to VR reported that the device was previously code-named "Project Phoenix" [11]. Meta calls it "our most advanced device yet" and says the glasses weigh about 100 grams and are five times lighter than Meta Quest 3, because a separate puck connected by an optical tether holds the compute, battery and storage [3]. Meta lists a "5K Infinite Display" using micro-OLED panels at 37 pixels per degree, custom pancake lenses, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos audio built into the frames, and Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, with up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback and 45 W fast charging [3]. Road to VR reported a per-eye resolution of 2,412 by 2,288 and a field of view of about 70 degrees horizontal by 66 degrees vertical [11]. Input is by eye tracking, hand gestures and voice, and Meta has built its AI agent into the operating system [3].
Meta says the device is the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR device [3]. It named Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, ESPN and Tubi as media partners, 3D catalogs from Disney+, Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+, and a plan with James Cameron's Lightstorm Vision to release "first time in 3D" films in 2027 [1][3]. It promised more than 100 immersive live sports events a year after launch with partners including ESPN, MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports and UFC [3]. For work, the glasses provide multiple virtual screens and can turn a flat surface into a keyboard and touchpad [3]. Meta promised more than 75 games playable with hand gestures at launch, plus Xbox Cloud Gaming [3]. Meta's developer recap says the glasses run the same operating system as Meta Quest [5]; Road to VR reported that they support Quest's Touch Plus controllers, sold separately, and with them can play existing content from the Horizon store [11][12]. Hologram calling, a photorealistic avatar driven by real-time expressions, is also planned for the device [3].
Meta VR Glasses go on sale in Spring 2027 for $1,299.99 (US) [3]. Road to VR listed 25 countries Meta is targeting for launch availability [11]. Meta's developer blog described the device as "an addition, not a replacement" for Meta Quest and said the company was "continuing to invest in new gaming hardware" [5].
Accessibility and hearing
Meta announced hearing enhancement, which it describes as FDA-cleared software that helps adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss hear better through supported AI glasses [1]. Meta says setup takes minutes at home without a clinic visit or prescription [1]. The feature is scheduled to launch in the US later in 2026 for $149.99 (HSA/FSA eligible, according to Meta) or as part of a Meta One subscription [1]. Meta One is the paid subscription service Meta introduced on September 15, 2026 [29]. Gizmodo noted that the price was not mentioned during the keynote itself [8].
Horizon and developer tools
On September 24, Meta introduced Horizon Create, a standalone mobile app, and Horizon Studio, a browser-based editor [6]. Both use the "agentic creation capabilities" of the Meta Horizon Engine to turn a text prompt into a complete 2D or 3D mobile game with progression systems, difficulty balancing, art direction and multiplayer, which creators can then edit [6]. Projects move between the two tools, and published games can be distributed natively on Facebook, Instagram and Horizon, where a viewer can tap a clip and join a multiplayer session without installing an app [6]. Meta says discovery rewards games that keep players coming back, that creators can earn through in-game monetization and the Meta Horizon Creator Fund, and that all generated content passes through its safety systems, with automated age ratings for every published game [6]. Early access is rolling out gradually through a waitlist [6]. Android Central reported that Meta had been working on this version of Horizon only since April and expected it to start rolling out early the following year [17].

Reception
Coverage focused on Meta VR Glasses and on privacy. Road to VR titled its hands-on "What Apple Vision Pro Probably Should Have Been"; its reviewer called the color passthrough the best they had seen on a standalone VR headset and praised the display, but noted that the roughly 70-degree horizontal field of view is much narrower than Quest 3's 110 degrees [12]. Gizmodo's James Pero wrote that the glasses were "hard to describe" but that most people would likely be impressed when trying them, while his colleague Raymond Wong wrote that Zuckerberg "didn't bring much energy to the keynote" [8]. Gizmodo also compared the $1,299 price with the Quest 3 and the $3,500 Apple Vision Pro [8].
Several outlets read the camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio as a response to criticism of camera glasses. TechCrunch described them as "designed to combat criticism" of AI glasses [14]. Silicon Republic, citing Bloomberg, reported that Bosworth said the audio-only glasses had been in development for about two years and that Meta was "a little bit fortunate" to have one given the "privacy narrative playing out around glasses globally" [16]. Tom's Guide wrote that Meta said "very little" about the privacy issues that had followed the company in the preceding year [9].
On the software side, Android Central's hands-on with Horizon Create said the AI-generated games did not "quite fit into the 'slop' category" and that the reviewer came away impressed after a demo in which five people built one game world together [17].
Market reaction
Investing.com reported on September 24 that Unity Software shares fell 5% and Roblox and AppLovin shares each fell 1% after Meta announced Horizon Create and Horizon Studio, noting that those companies operate in game development, user-generated games and mobile game monetization [30]. Before the keynote on September 23, Tom's Guide noted that Meta's stock was up 2.12% at the time of its post and suggested that Muse, rather than the expected hardware, was the more likely catalyst [9].
