History

Galbot was founded in Beijing in May 2023.[2][5] The company came out of the embodied-AI research orbit of Peking University, where founder Wang He runs a research group focused on robotic manipulation, dexterous grasping, and vision-language-action models.[16][17] By June 2024 Galbot had closed an angel round of approximately RMB 700 million (about $99.75 million), which Xinhua described as a record for China's embodied intelligence sector that year; the largest investment came from the on-demand services platform Meituan.[2] Xinhua also reported at the time that the young company had developed grasping technology with a 95 percent success rate "for objects of any material and stacking configuration" and would begin testing a 24-hour unmanned operation scenario with Meituan by the end of 2024.[2]

Founder and leadership

Wang He (王鹤) is Galbot's founder and chief technology officer. He is a tenure-track assistant professor at Peking University and a Stanford University PhD graduate whose academic work spans dexterous grasping, object pose estimation, and embodied navigation.[6][13][17] His research group's output feeds directly into Galbot's model stack: he is a senior author of the GraspVLA paper, and his lab's honors include MIT Technology Review's Innovators Under 35 (TR35 China) in 2025 and the Beijing Youth May Fourth Medal in 2026.[16][17] Zhao Yuli serves as chief strategy officer and has been the company's public voice on its pharmacy and retail automation business.[15]

Products

Galbot G1

The Galbot G1 is a wheeled semi-humanoid mobile manipulator: two dexterous arms and a lifting torso on an omnidirectional wheeled base, rather than a bipedal walker. The Robot Report describes it as designed to "automate inventory, replenishment, delivery, and packaging," with AI models that let it handle around 5,000 different types of goods and a deployment time of about one day per store.[5] The G1 is the platform behind the Galbot Store retail format, the unmanned pharmacies, hospital pilots, and most of the company's factory proof-of-concept work. Galbot S1

Galbot Store

Unmanned retail and pharmacies

Galbot's most distinctive commercial bet is running its own 24/7 unmanned storefronts. The pharmacy line began with the Meituan partnership unveiled in September 2024.[3] By March 2026, CGTN reported a Galbot pharmacy in Beijing's Haidian district in which a G1 handles order processing, sorting, packaging, replenishment, and inventory across roughly 5,000 drug SKUs in a 70-square-meter store, with a reported grasping success rate of about 99.5 percent; pharmacy staff said the system can cut labor demand by more than half.[14] The Seoul Economic Daily reported in March 2026 that Galbot plans to expand its smart pharmacies and unmanned convenience stores from approximately 200 locations to more than 1,000 by the end of 2026.[15]

At the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing in August 2025, Galbot won the gold medal in the robot skills competition's pharmaceutical sorting challenge.
